The PCBA process is a combination of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Dual In-line Package (DIP) manufacturing processes. It can be divided into different production technologies like single-sided SMT mounting, single-sided DIP insertion, single-sided hybrid packaging, double-sided SMT mounting, and double-sided hybrid packaging, based on varied requirements.
The PCBA process includes several stages such as carrier board, printing, installation, reflow soldering, plug-in, wave soldering, testing, and quality inspection.
PCBA Processing Technology
1. Single-sided SMT Mounting:
Solder paste is added to the component pads of the PCB. The relevant electronic components are then installed through reflow soldering, followed by reflow soldering.
2. Single-sided DIP Cartridge:
After inserting the electronic components, the PCB boards that need to be inserted are wave-soldered by production line workers. The feet can be cut and cleaned after the soldering is fixed. However, the production efficiency of wave soldering is low.
3. Single-side Mixed Loading:
The PCB board is printed with solder paste, installed with electronic components, and then fixed with reflow soldering. After quality inspection, DIP is inserted, and then wave soldering or manual soldering is performed. If there are few through-hole components, manual soldering is recommended.
4. Single-sided Installation and Plug-in Hybrid:
Some PCB boards are double-sided, with one side attached and the other side inserted. The process of installation and insertion is the same as the single-sided processing, but the PCB reflow and wave soldering require fixtures.
5. Double-sided SMT Installation:
For aesthetics and functionality of the PCB board, some PCB board design engineers may adopt a double-sided mounting method. Integrated circuit components are arranged on one side and chip components are mounted on the other side. This method minimizes the PCB board area and maximizes the PCB board space.
6. Double-sided Mixed:
The following two methods are mixed on both sides. The first method heats the PCBA components three times, making it low in efficiency. Red glue technology is not recommended for wave soldering, as the soldering qualification rate is low. The second method is suitable for situations where there are many SMT components on both sides and few THT components. Manual welding is recommended. If there are many THT components, wave soldering is recommended.
