When you’re in need of a single board computer, a vast selection is available, making it tough to pick an ecosystem. We’ll cover the top ten most current single board computers to help you choose the right platform for your next project.
How many of these have you tried and what has been your experience of them? Drop a few lines (or a full novel) in the comments section below to let us know which boards you like best and why: don't forget to tell us how you use them and if you use them at work or just for hobby.
Raspberry Pi
Raspberry Pi has become the staple in single-board computers for its affordability, versatility and compatibility. Keeping this at the forefront of production, the company just released Raspberry Pi 2, which offers more memory, a faster processor and compatibility with just about every OS, including Windows 10.
Raspberry Pi 2 features a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU. This is 6x the performance of the Model B+ version. The new board also features twice as much memory, with a 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM Micron chip.
Also new with this rollout is compatibility with Microsoft Windows 10. Through a partnership, Windows 10 will now be available to all makers for free. As usual, however, the chip will still maintain compatibility with Snappy Ubuntu Core, Linux and more. It is also directly compatible with many popular open source libraries, including LibreOffice, WebKit and PyPy. It is also still open source.
